Who knew that ‘Back to School Necklace’ was even a thing?
Every parent wishes to be able to understand and keep up with their children and their everchanging needs. The purpose is to not only communicate with them effectively but to also be able to understand whats going on in their world which we need to have insight into. The ever-changing lingo and new jargons make it so challenging for a person to discuss even on the simplest subjects like feelings, interests or even Netflix series they like watching.
The Acronym world:
LOL, SMH, TBH, and IDK are just a few examples that even the Millennials use in everyday life while communicating through WhatsApp and Instagram. To keep up, you can do some research online or even ask your kids to explain what they mean. There are several that are used wrong like the emojis which people have started to use as per their own liking without understanding what they are actually meant for.
Slangs:
These words are changing so rapidly that you can only stay updated by consuming the same movies and content that they’re consuming. Their circle they sit in and the gatherings they have an equal impact on their lingo and mindset and if your4 lucky enough to have access to their virtual world or online existence on Instagram you will have insight on many things you did not know existed.
Trends and Influencers:
The next most impactful source to you and your child’s mind is the exposure to the changing trends and that is mostly through influencers or big game changers who have paid content and all this has the power to change the way we think and process data all sort. This is the first source of information to the newer generations who believe in most of what is shown through this media which may be fake in reality but they’re somehow able to connect to this way better than to a regular newspaper and are highly open to whatever is shown.
Coming back to what kids say or speak, Back to School Necklace may sound like the latest jewellery trend for a celebration of getting back to friends and school after vacations and break but its strangely not. You google a bit and you can find out it’s a total opposite of what it may seem to be. So ‘What is Back to School Necklace” and this is what you find out:

Back To School Mindset:
Not all children would look up to school after a break and feel apprehensive after some fun time with friends and family just like any of us who would not like to return back to work from a vacation. Half the kids will associate the phrase Back to School to new class, new room, new stationary and bags and all the excitement of meeting up all the school friends whereas a few will associate it to new teacher, new room, a lot more to study, tedious days at school and the commute in odd weather, maybe some bullying , and several other negative impacts one might have had in the previous years specially at the beginning of the term. Back to School Necklace may be a friendship necklace for friends joining back together but when you google it as Back to School Necklace meme it shows a noose picture and students with upset faces and anxiety dripping off their faces.
Turning Negative Associations into Positivity & Hope:
The fact that a few will always see a picture with half glass full while the other few will see the half glass empty, the mindset is highly influenced by people around you. Be the one who brings positive aura to the room and to the conversations you daily have with your children and your child might replicate that. Be open to discussions and conversations with your children who are in a different time as you, and under no circumstances they need to be like you. Share your experiences and your thoughts but do not push your learnings and beliefs onto them. Back to School may be cool for one child and a soul wrenching experience for the other but we need to instill this into our child’s mind that we have to make the best if what we have and be the change if you want change. Times are tough and children need to be open to learning and not pressurized to learning and that we can do with a lot of change and improvement in ourselves.
